Expert Witnesses - Why Your Case May Need One

Legal

Mississippi's Rules of Evidence and most other jurisdictions generally define an "expert witness" as someone with specialized knowledge, skill, education, experience, and training on a particular subject. Experts may be anything from those with specialized knowledge in accident reconstruction, nursing home practices, how slippery a pool deck is, or the sequencing of traffic signals. There is virtually no end to what topics may be benefited from expert testimony.

Some cases, such as medical malpractice cases, require an expert. It is important for your attorney to understand when an expert is warranted and to have a good working relationship with a particular expert. A good expert can explain complicated or confusing issues to a jury in a manner that a layperson cannot. Expert testimony can often make or break a case.
